Telegram opens one account per phone number, and shows that number to your contacts unless you hide it. A rented line answers both: a separate account, and not handing out your personal number.
An account that does not carry your personal number
Telegram shows your number to anyone who already has it saved. With a rented line, that is the number they see — and you keep yours for family.
Login codes arrive by SMS, in the app
Telegram sends its login code by SMS when no session is open. It appears in ELK Connect, on any device you are signed in to.
Several accounts, one balance
One number per Telegram account, all inside the same ELK Connect account and paid from the same balance. Each line stops on its own, the month it stops being useful.
Frequently asked questions
- Telegram sends my code in the app, not by SMS. What now?
- That only happens when you already have a session open somewhere: Telegram then delivers the code inside the app itself. For a NEW account, or on a number never used before, the code does go out by SMS and lands in ELK Connect.
- Can I hide my number from Telegram contacts?
- Yes, in Telegram's privacy settings — and that is independent of us. A rented line adds one more layer: even revealed, it is not your personal line.
- What happens if I stop paying for the number?
- The line goes back to the carrier, which may reassign it. If your Telegram account depends on it, change the number inside Telegram BEFORE you stop: without the line, you cannot receive the login code.
Worth knowing
Telegram may ask for extra verification on a recent account, including a password only you know. A number does not replace an account you have lost access to.
